Pearle K Brown

Licensed Marriage/Family Therapist, Florida, Alabama

Dr. Pearle Brown is licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in both Florida and Alabama, and is a clinical member of The American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.

She has a Master’s in Counseling from the University of Alabama, Birmingham, and a Doctorate in Counseling from Auburn University. She was formerly the clinical director of the Cheaha Mental Health Center in Sylacauga, AL, and has been in private practice for the past 25 years.

Dr. Brown works with children and adolescents as well as with adults. In addition to marriage and family issues she also is experienced in helping with sexual and gender issues and eating disorders.

I have worked as a therapist in the mental health field for over 30 years and worked with people with marital and family issues even before Marriage and Family Therapy was recognized as a profession.

Couple relationships are complex and there is a great deal of stress on marriages and families. My work with couples ranges from communication issues to stress, parenting problems and sexual dissatisfactions. My training at the Masters and Johnson Institute in the late ’70’s helped me to understand and assist couples with sexual issues.

Marriages are often complicated by one or both partner’s emotional state – such as anxiety and depression. My 20 years working in a Community Mental Health Center helped me to understand the values of medication and a good relationship between doctor and therapist. For 11 years I was the Clinical Director of a Mental Health Center and worked closely with psychiatrists, psychologists, and social workers. I have seen the value of what each profession brings, but I have most enjoyed my work with children, couples, and adolescents.

I am particularly interested in working with children. My early career was as a family social worker, and later I was the director of a child development center. I have extensive experience in testing and evaluating children and adolescents.

I am currently licensed as a Marriage and Family Therapist in both Florida and Alabama and continue to be associated with Grayson and Associates, a psychiatric center in Birmingham. I appreciate working with the competent and friendly staff of Family and Child Development and the quality of work that they do.
